Manchester Pride 2024
Missed out on Manchester Pride 2024?
Check out the interview below with Darren Hopkins, where we found out about the trip to Manchester Pride 2024.
We hope to see you join us in 2025!
How many from NEXT attended?
30 attendees, across Retail, Head office and Distribution, alongside a vehicle float, made for a great presence!
What was the theme this year?
The theme was ‘Buzzin’ to be Queer - A Hive of Progress’.
The iconic worker bee symbolises unity and is deeply rooted in Manchester's history, emerging as the focal symbol for this year's Parade. Just as worker bees collaborate to maintain in their hive, Mancunians embrace a collective spirit that excels individual efforts. This sense of teamwork is not only a testament to the city's rich history but also a guiding principle of Manchester Pride.
As we celebrated this year’s theme, the ‘Progress Bee’ becomes more than a symbol; it becomes a call to action. It reminds us that, just like worker bees collaborating in a hive, LGBTQ+ communities and their allies can achieve great things when united. - Manchester Pride
Hamish the Cow joined us for the Manchester Pride parade, adding even more fun and energy to the day! It was fantastic to see Hamish walking alongside us, spreading smiles and supporting the LGBTQ+ community. Having Hamish there made our participation in the parade even more memorable!
What did you do on the march?
As we walked in the parade, we made sure to spread some extra joy by handing out sweets and 'Be You at NEXT No1 Fan’ branded fans to the crowd. It was great to see the smiles as people received them, and the fans were a hit - even in the rain!
How has NEXT's presence improved from last year?
The scale of the event was considerably bigger! It was float led, with a Mascot attendance and an increase in the Group walkers!
Great external feedback from the crowds! t/hey love the ‘NEXT’ brand and were not expecting to see the presence as it was the first time! The Company announcement for the Pride At NEXT network was put to the crowd by the announcer at the event stand as we neared the finish!
Why is Pride and Diversity & Inclusion important to NEXT?
Pride and DE&I (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) are important to NEXT because they reflect our commitment to creating a workplace and community where everyone feels valued and respected. Embracing diversity not only fosters a more inclusive environment but also drives innovation and creativity. By supporting Pride and prioritising DE&I, we’re ensuring that everyone at NEXT, regardless of their background or identity, has the opportunity to thrive and contribute to our shared success. It's about making sure everyone feels they belong and can bring their whole selves to work every day.
