Next together with THT hosted A LIVE online 'Lunch and Learn' event on Friday 11th JUNE 2021

On the back of the success of our THT It’s A Sin Lunch & Learn event (availiable below), Pride At Next introduced our second THT online event which focued on the lived experience of one of their Positive Voices speakers about living with HIV as well as important information about THT and HIV in the UK today.

The event will feature a guest speaker Steven Hughes.

Steven volunteers with Terrence Higgins Trust, and shares his personal journey following a diagnosis of HIV in 2016. This is a great opportunity to increase our understanding and help end stigma around HIV.

Steve is 28 years old, gay, and HIV+ living in Manchester.

Steve is Chief Operating Officer of a large Greater Manchester Citizens Advice service and is a leading voice on the issues affecting families across Greater Manchester.  Alongside his role in the Citizens Advice service, Steve is the Cabinet Member for Communities at Rossendale Borough Council, a Non-Executive Director of Trafford Housing Trust, Chair of Sector 3 in Stockport and an Independent Member of the Advice Equality Committee across England and Wales.

In addition to the above, Steve is an equity, diversity and inclusion campaigner and fights against HIV stigma and discrimination.

Next together with THT hosted our first LIVE online 'Lunch and Learn' event on Friday 30th April 2021

The event featured guest speaker Richard Angell, the Head of Policy and Public Affairs at Terrence Higgins Trust who served a part of the secretariat team for the HIV Commission.

It's A Sin is leading a national conversation about the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the 1980s and what is happening with HIV today. While HIV is not just an experience of the LGBT+ community, it has had a disproportionate impact on the community and is the focus of Its A Sin.

Established in 1982 after the death of Terry Higgins, one of the first people to die of an AIDS-related illness, Terrence Higgins Trust is the leading HIV and sexual health charity both supporting people living with HIV and campaigning for change.

Their work through the period of It’s A Sin is covered in each episode in the frame – from those giving the LGBT community the early warning to organising the buddy system in AIDS wards.

In 2019 THT, with their friends at National AIDS Trust and the Elton John AIDS Foundation, launched the HIV Commission, off the back of Matt Hancock committing England to ending new cases of HIV by 2030, and issued its final report on 1 December 2020, World AIDS Day.
